Nursing With a Difference had no intention of having a logo. Four years down the line it has become clear that people expect a LOGO.

Why?

Does a LOGO bring some sort of value into life?

Does a LOGO give direction in life?

What is the purpose of a LOGO other than to identify it with a certain organization or individual?

We decided that if a LOGO was so important to so many people, our LOGO had to convey the means and ends - the process and outcome - of what Nursing With A Difference is all about.

In the presentation "Visible and Invisible" we have attempted to outline this and as you are looking at the Home Page and Flash Movie, do take time to send us a synopsis of what our LOGO means to you.

By faith we believe the world was created by God. ( Hebrews 11:3).

Down through the ages man has used his psychomotor skills to determine and to record the geographical physical features of this world.

This same mental and physical prowess has enabled man to launch the satellite and view the world from a great height.

You opened our Home Page and Flash Movie with certain expectations but did not expect to be greeted by NASA’S amazing photograph of the world.

"A number of NASA satellites took this picture on 27 November 2000. It shows all the regions of the world inhabited and uninhabited. The intensities of light represent the level of development of the region."

This magnificent photograph bears the indelible stamp of the majestic creative power of God even as it confirms the painstaking labor of man who down through the ages has faithfully used his creative skills to document the realities of their findings into maps for instruction, edification and as a guide for the billions of young and old who inhabit the earth.

From the eye of the satellite camera we have a photograph memory that reminds us of man's God given responsibility to manage and develop the wonderful resources He has given to us. By faithful reproduction of ‘what is’ in terms of development, it challenges us to accountability - how are we using our freedom to maintain, develop, use and enjoy these resources?

The Nightingales 'standing guard' and 'coming' signify the distinctive role of Nurses within each nation.

There is darkness over the world but we become aware of considerable light variation and density accompanying the Nightingale until she comes to perch in full light in her ready-for-action position on her branch. The bareness of the branch suggests changing seasons, autumn and winter to spring with its new life. Her mouth is open in song - the richness and quality of her song is world renowned.

The accompanying music and singing by Nurses of India commences with quiet but clear sounds, the notes and words bringing us to perfect communion with the Creator of all things ( Colossians 1:16)

The combination of music and singing brings life, hope, purpose and peace. We become aware in a different way of the presence of God the Creator as our Heavenly Father.

The Nightingale is one of the tiniest birds. In appearance delicate, giving the impression of being light and fragile, it is soft colored and highly sensitive; yet this belies its hidden strength to withstand the storms, blizzards, predators and all the destructive forces within the bird and animal kingdom as well as the great unknown including man.

She appears to be perched precariously on a branch in a constant state of readiness, yet her song is clear, confident and beautiful and no other bird can take it from her. Her special gifts and strength that inspires, encourages and thrills all who hear her, come from the Creator to equip her for her unique function in the world covered with so much darkness.

What better logo for Nursing With A Difference than a reminder that the God who created the world and the Nightingale for a specific purpose also created Nurses to be the Nightingales throughout the world bringing light and song through caring-healing-health in the sick health services of the Nations.

The Nightingale bird takes food from the hand of her Creator for herself then goes and feeds her young and disabled from her own mouth.

The Nightingale is dependent on the Father who holds power over the universe. Her song is her spontaneous response to God’s provision. It challenges us to rethink values in Nursing and Jesus words in Mathew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air...Are you not of more value than they?” Has He promised and will He not provide what each Nurse requires? But do we receive all He is providing?

The caption “Let Each Day Be Your Masterpiece”, drawn from Galatians 6:9 would not be possible for we would indeed ‘grow weary’ and become increasingly impotent were it not for the truth of Psalm 104:30 assuring us that the Mighty God of Creation our Heavenly Father sends forth His Spirit to create and to renew His creation.

Unlike the Nightingale bird the Creator has given us the freedom to choose through decisive action of our mind and our will.

When we choose to appropriate all that He is waiting to feed us on, NO Nurse will be subject to the sickening rhetoric, or sentimental blurred blue print of past Nightingales in Nursing.

As we draw deeply from the wells of goodness from the past, to build on and develop each day as a fresh masterpiece, each Nurse will have the joy of being a unique Nightingale in the grand Nightingale profession of our day.

When the mixing of the music for our singing was taking place, after several hours of hard work on modern fancy improvisations straining for effect, one technical expert turned to the other and said, ‘We can’t do this’, the second man looked up as the first continued, ‘for this singing, the music has to be simple and clean’. The second echoed, ‘simple and clean’. They turned back without another word and in seconds the struggle was over, the clutter removed. Our Nurses singing accompanied by simple and clean music has not failed to move the hearts of all who have heard it.

When the whole exercise was completed this writer turned to the Studio's technical expert and said, ’It seems Mr Gupta, you have enjoyed our Nurses singing ’. His immediate response, ‘Why not ?’it is so beautiful’.

The Lord God Almighty, Creator and loving Heavenly Father had heard our prayers and seen the months of diligent work by each Nurse and the two Musicians who had trained them and He was answering - the first to be blessed was the technical expert in the studio who had helped us to produce such a fine recording.

May each Nurse reading the subsequent pages experience in new and wonderful ways the invisible yet indisputable power of the Spirit of our Creator enabling each one to identify, select, and feed herself with fresh nourishment appropriate to his/her need,and thus strengthened, to feed the flock of patients and their families and all others entrusted to our care.

Our Logo transcends the law of the universe by depicting the reality that God is more than law. He is love expressing himself through law.

The Nursing Profession, nationally and internationally is not a courtroom but a Family – His family – obedient and disobedient to His laws; all striving, some in rebellion to God’s Law and some in reverence; all wanting the good, the true and the beautiful; all seeking Gyana Marga, the way of knowledge; Bhakti Marga, the Way of devotion or emotion; Karma Marga, the way of works or deeds.

Our little Nightingales remind us that Jesus, in decisive clear words said, “ I am the way, the Truth and the Life.”

This is that part of the World that forms the Kingdom of God – may each Nurse seek to be in the Kingdom of God so that he/she can walk in quietness and confidence the path of His righteousness, drawing constantly on the Power of all Powers in Heaven and on earth, in order to minister to all in this particular sphere of service, in the world of sin and suffering.

Is a non-formal symbol; a badge of office that expresses attributes that publicly mark the person or organization.

To develop a LOGO for Nursing requires hindsight, insight, foresight and vision.

Our LOGO has evolved, bringing together something of the wonder and power of God’s creation with the Nurse as a unique entity in creation.

All that this encompasses is expressed in and through Nursing.
